© Anna YatskevichAaron Parks is one of the most exciting representatives of the young American jazz scene. In 2018, he founded his quartet Little Big. For his band project, the celebrated pianist brings congenial partners to his side. The result is complexly interwoven soundscapes, wonderfully melodic compositions and improvisations, flanked by the skilful use of indie rock, electronica and hip-hop elements. The band has released its third album. Even more than on the previous albums, the focus here is on a collective band identity and communication at the moment. Compositions by Parks can be heard, of course, but also by his band members Tuohey and Ginyard. The band now seems to have reached a point where they really feel beyond genres and seamlessly incorporate influences from non-jazz sources with borrowings from pop and rock aesthetics in an integrated and distilled way. It's riskier and more alive than ever before, and that's why it's even more jazz in a way than before.
