© Anna WebberPianist Alfredo Rodriguez reflects the talents of legendary jazz pianists Keith Jarrett, Thelonious Monk and Art Tatum. The captivating art of Cuban-born Rodríguez, who was trained at the strict classical conservatories of Havana, is as much influenced by Bach and Stravinsky as it is by his Cuban and jazz roots. Rodríguez was discovered by Quincy Jones at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2006 and has distinguished himself as the epitome of jazz and boundless improvisation. To gain something new, something unheard-of from a languishing rag like "Guantanamera" is something. The 2015 Grammy nomination for Best Instrumental Arrangement catapulted Cuban jazz pianist Alfredo Rodriguez into the spotlight. It became too cramped for him on the sugar island, so the path to the USA was only logical for the then 20-year-old pianist Rodriguez. The collaboration with famous colleagues such as Wayne Shorter, Richard Bona or Lionel Loueke sharpened his own profile and gave Rodriguez an unobstructed view of the rich musical heritage of his Caribbean homeland. Hardly any other piano trio succeeds in portraying the essence of Cuban music more effectively than the Alfredo Rodriguez Trio. His latest album was released in the fall of 2025.
