What better thing can happen to a young, up-and-coming jazz talent than to be discovered by a successful musician during a jam session and then hired by him? That's exactly what happened when Alma Naidu sang a touching version of "My funny Valentine" in the early morning hours of the Burghausen Jazz Week in 2019 and thrilled drummer Wolfgang Haffner with it. Since then, she has been featured on his album and played numerous concerts with him. Jazz critics call her "one of the most promising singers on the German scene" and praise her "delicately elegiac" voice. Naidu grew up surrounded by classical singing - her mother is a chamber singer; Piano and violin lessons, later dance and musical singing were part of Alma Naidu's wide-ranging musical socialization, as were playing the guitar and a preference for the hard rock band "Metallica". She presents a sensitive mixture of floating, swinging standard versions and her own, poetic compositions. Haunting songwriter jazz. Alma, by the way, means "soul" – you can hear it in every note.
