Annie & The CaldwellsRaw soul magic and spiritual grooves from deeply musical Mississippi family band - an incomparable live experience!

It is truly a remarkable story: In 1975, the American soul and gospel band The Staples Jr. Singers recorded their only album, 'When Do We Get Paid.' Nearly 40 years later, David Byrne of the Talking Heads discovered the record, described by 'Die Zeit' as 'sacred music,' and re-released it. In the meantime, singer Annie Caldwell had withdrawn from the public eye, started a family, and opened a clothing store. And eventually, she put together a new band - together with her husband, her sons, and her daughters: Annie & The Caldwells. The band's debut album was released in March 2025 on Byrne's label Luaka Bop and was immediately placed by The Guardian on the list 'Best Albums of 2025 So Far.' Their energetic mix of spiritually influenced gospel and powerful funk is considered an unparalleled live experience. By the way: The Caldwells' clothing store is still open five days a week, at least when the family is not on tour. In addition, all band members continue to have regular jobs: as a forklift driver, beautician, primary school teacher, or ambulance driver. It doesn't get more grounded than that. But neither does it get more good music!
