© Shervin Lainez“Are you a trumpeter who sings, or a singer who plays the trumpet?” wonders Bria Skonberg, reflecting on her success in both areas at the same time. On her new album "Brass," which was released in March 2026, she presents pieces that are a celebration of her trumpet playing. The Canadian singer, trumpeter, songwriter, arranger, and bandleader Bria Skonberg is described by the Wall Street Journal as one of the most versatile and impressive musicians of her generation. She masters the clarion virtuously, a French term for a special trumpet, and she handles the mainstream just as magnificently as traditional jazz. The multi-talented artist grew up in Chilliwack, British Columbia. In Vancouver, Skonberg led the formations Bria’s Hot Five and The Big Bang Jazz Band. In 2009, she performed for the first time as a soloist and singer and released her first recordings. Her love for hot rhythms is shown, among other things, in the co-founding of the women's band Mighty Aphrodite. After her move to New York in 2010, Bria Skonberg released her debut album "Fresh" with skillful interpretations of standards by Bert Kaempfert and Janis Joplin. This was followed by invitations to festivals around the world and awards such as the CBC Jazz Award of Merit, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Swing Award, and the Juno Award. We look forward to a deeply impressive musician.
