Camilla George QuartetBetween origin and future - a hypnotizing mix of Afrofuturism, hip-hop, and jazz.

Camilla George, a Nigerian Londoner by choice, is one of the most important rising stars of the British jazz scene. She is a fixture in the new London jazz scene, alongside colleagues such as Nubya Garcia and Shabaka Hutchings. Their music is a mesmerizing blend of Afrofuturism, hip-hop and jazz with a politically minded subtext that has a strong connection to their Nigerian identity and heritage, reflecting African history, culture and experiences of slavery. Before realizing her own band projects, the saxophonist played in such top-class ensembles as the Nu Civilisation Orchestra, Jazz Jamaica, the Tomorrows Warriors and the Venus Warriors, a women's ensemble sponsored by Courtney Pine. So far, George has released three critically acclaimed solo albums. Influenced by Fela Kuti and Charlie Parker, she began playing the saxophone at the age of 11 and later studied at Trinity College of Music. In 2014, she started her own, highly acclaimed project. Her albums "Isang", "The People Could Fly" and "Ibio Ibio" have been critically acclaimed, with "Ibio Ibio" celebrating her Ibibio roots. Camilla has performed at festivals such as North Sea Jazz and Jazz à Vienne and was named Best Jazz Act at the Urban Music Awards in 2023. An exciting, new voice in jazz that no one should miss.
