Wild desire, unrestrained madness, boundless zest for life, and intoxicated sensuality: That’s what it’s about when Bernd Lhotzky – this time on the harpsichord instead of the usual piano – together with Émile Parisien, Frédéric Couderc, Henning Sieverts, and Eric Schaefer reveals the Baroque within all of us in the present and lets new, dazzling sparks fly from the inherited. Sixty years after the groundbreaking joint success of jazz legend George Gruntz and iconic jazz producer Siggi Loch with their two studio albums “Jazz Goes Baroque,” Bernd Lhotzky now brings this repertoire to the stage with the means of our time. The top-notch lineup of this reinterpretation connects to the group that recorded Jazz Meets Baroque in the 1960s. The central soloist back then was saxophonist Klaus Doldinger, who would later become a key figure in German jazz. In this new version, a current key figure of European jazz is at the center: The French soprano saxophonist Emile Parisien. Also performing: the French flutist and saxophonist Frédéric Couderc, whose virtuosity and stylistic flexibility will be among the evening's surprises, the bassist and cellist Henning Sieverts, in whose playing jazz and classical tradition meet in a completely natural way, as well as the endlessly inventive Eric Schaefer on drums.
