© Anna NidermeyerFor over 20 years, Bushman ́s Revenge have been pushing their very own sound: The Norwegian trio combines the force of rock with the freedom of jazz, lets wild grooves meet surprising twists and effortlessly switches between brute energy and filigree moments. The result is unmistakable - somewhere between Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath and John Coltrane, but always with a lot of stubbornness. The result: a musical adrenaline kick that can hardly be pressed into genre boundaries. With "Ah, Les Vaches!", the three present their twelfth album - and with bassist Tor Egil Kreken at the same time a new band member. This time they wanted to move a little more in the direction of pop. However, this does not mean smooth-polished mainstream: shorter pieces, catchier melodies and more concise rhythms continue to meet weird humor, wild twists and a lot of musical idiosyncrasy. Even a cover version of Stina Nordenstam's interpretation of Prince's classic "Purple Rain" fits in quite naturally. The trio drives each other on, throws musical balls at each other and surprises with abrupt changes of mood. Sometimes it crashes violently, sometimes seemingly simple motifs create intricate grooves that rearrange themselves again and again. Nothing sounds like a mere demonstration of instrumental virtuosity: Bushman's Revenge play with an infectious desire to take risks and apparently don't take themselves too seriously. A band that doesn't play jazz off against rock, but lets both collide with full force.
