Horst Hansen Trio"What the Horst Hansen Trio is doing is a good gateway drug, especially for young people." Westdeutsche Zeitung

Irony is the trump card! For example, when the Horst Hansen Trio pompously announces that it wants to celebrate its 60th stage anniversary. Everything is a bit misleading with this band, which has actually never been a threesome. Horst Hansen Trio, that is five men around 30, who perform in colorful socks and even more colorful shirts, but make seriously good music. The influence on the band's music is as colorful as the socks, which use elements of fusion, hip-hop or drum & bass and mix everything into a grandiose "Überjazz", as they call it. Driving grooves, unexpected twists, love for details in the arrangement and a touch of megalomania - always in the field of tension between jazz and dance music. The whole thing is complemented by sensual vocal arrangements in the style of the 60s. The band consists of five members who continue the story of the self-proclaimed forefather of Überjazz, the Krefeld dance musician Horst Hansen. The quintet recorded its debut "Party Jazz" in 2010 in its original line-up (bass, guitar, drums, piano and saxophone). In 2019, after a reshuffle, work began on the fourth album "Live in Japan", which was released in 2020. The band now also opened up to electronic sounds. Trumpet, saxophone and drums are alienated by effect pedals and two synthesizers are integrated into the band. The mixture of elements of psychedelic rock, bebop and improvisation are in the foreground here. The combination of a lively, rather jazz-atypical live show with superficial wit but profound meaning has become the trademark of this band.
