Joshua Redman is probably the most important saxophonist of his generation. Born in California in 1969, he presents a work full of emotional depth with his new album "Words Fall Short". Accompanied by his current quartet – Paul Cornish on piano, Philip Norris on bass and Nazir Ebo on drums – Redman unfolds a sound that combines intimate ballads and powerful jazz compositions. His warm, singing tone and gripping stage presence make every concert an unforgettable experience. The repertoire includes original compositions and new interpretations of classics such as "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Monk's Dream". "At most, words carry you to the doorstep of what you want to say," says Joshua Redman. Because that's not enough for him, he makes music. Because words are fallible and can never fully describe or tell the human experience, he plays the saxophone. But even sounds don't always hit the mark, says Redman: it's just the beauty that we humans aren't perfect. His new album, for all its mastery, virtuosity and power, radiates a certain vulnerable humanity, which makes it a great work. And we can experience this in an intimate setting at Nica - we can hardly believe our luck!
