Kussi Weiss belongs to the top guard of German Sinti jazz musicians. The guitarist can already look back on numerous CD releases and international festival appearances. The highly virtuoso guitarist has long since developed his unmistakable style, which combines Django Rheinhardt's legacy with modern elements in a particularly elegant way. Babik Reinhardt, the now deceased son of Django Rheinhardt, was completely thrilled when he saw the then just 22-year-old play alongside local jazz greats such as Bireli Lagrène and Stochelo Rosenberg at the legendary Django Festival in Samois-Sur-Seine in 1996 - so enthusiastic that he brought him onto the main stage the following year and ensured Kussi's breakthrough. Music was literally laid in his cradle - some of the most important representatives of German Sinti jazz come from the Weiss family. So it is no coincidence that he first came into contact with the guitar at the age of ten, a few months later he was already playing the rhythm guitar for his uncle Moritz Weiss, and soon he was on stage with the famous Martin and Haens ́che Weiss. But soon the role of companion is no longer enough for him. Without knowledge of sheet music, but with a lot of wit and talent, he learned to play solo and founded the Kussi Weiss Ensemble at the age of 17. With Tschabo Franzen on guitar and Moreno Weiss, he has gathered two equal instrumentalists around him in his current trio, who effortlessly master the balancing act between stylistic fidelity and modernity with him. Practically from the first minute, the trio unleashes a firework of joy of playing, virtuosity and, above all, rousing swing. It plays Django's music authentically and yet always allows itself forays into other musical realms.
