After a successful career, Ledisi finally received her first Grammy Award in the category "Best Traditional R&B Performance" in March 2021 for her hit "Anything For You". Ledisi means "towards a goal" in Yoruba. If you have the determination in your name, you don't have to be surprised to even count the former First Lady of the USA among your fans. Like a voice from a past where everything was better, where everything was soul and funk, Ledisi comes to us. But she doesn't rest on her laurels. She prefers to reveal her influences, allows herself everything, including R'n'B and hip-hop. This courage to do without surefire recipes and not to choose between the heavy (jazzy soul) and the lighter (modern R'n'B) will hopefully be rewarded.
Ledisi, who was inspired by music greats such as Nina Simone, released "Ledisi Sings Nina", a long-cherished dream project of hers. It includes collaborations with the Metropole Orkest and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra as well as guest contributions by Lizz Wright, Lisa Fischer and Alice Smith. The album has received excellent reviews and has been nominated for a Grammy. She has worked with numerous legends such as the Obamas, Prince, Patti LaBelle, Smokey Robinson, and many others, and is known for her extraordinary live performances. In addition to her music career, Ledisi has also appeared in film and television. She played the role of Patti LaBelle in "Leatherheads", "Selma" and in the series "American Soul". In the upcoming biography "Remember Me" she will play Mahalia Jackson and in "Spinning Gold" she will portray the legendary Gladys Knight. Ledisi is now not only a recognized artist, but also CEO of her own label Listen Back Entertainment/BMG and is involved in a variety of creative projects. She emphasizes her versatility as an artist, entrepreneur and passionate advocate for the rights of women artists.
