Lionel Loueke will be solo on stage this evening – a duo program with Dave Holland was planned, which Holland unfortunately had to cancel for health reasons, but which we will make up for in March 2026.
In recent years, Loueke has matured from a shooting star to one of the most important and independent guitarists of contemporary jazz. The 47-year-old from Benin, West Africa, who has lived in the USA for a long time, regularly proves this. Lionel Loueke is considered by many to be one of the greatest guitarists in the world. In 2001 he was selected for the Concours d'entrée of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, where he impressed jury members Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock. Praised as a "musical painter" by his mentor Herbie Hancock, Loueke combines harmonic sophistication and a deep knowledge of African music and conventional and advanced guitar techniques to create a warm and suggestive sound of his own.
