Lucia Cadotsch - AKILaconic singing, well-known pieces, great magic. Her music is decorated with the most important prizes from the Echo to the German Jazz Prize.

She fulfills one of the most important commandments for jazz musicians: Lucia Cadotsch has her very own, instantly recognizable sound. Her voice, which was awarded the German Jazz Prize 2021, unfolds an enormous intensity without vibrato and without pressure - with a certain understatement, so to speak - and always reliably in any musical context. Since the great international audience and media success of her album "Speak Low" in 2016, she has proven that the history of jazz is far from over. She regularly explores the boundaries of jazz in a surprising way – also with her latest band AKI.
In a remarkably subtle way, Lucia Cadotsch sings about social issues that are currently on her mind. In melodies that seem as if they were dreamed up before they were put on the sheet of music. And in reflections on personal experiences such as stereotypical role assignments and how to overcome them. At times, Lucia Cadotsch slips into the perspective of iconic female figures, from the mythical Medusa to Rosa Luxembourg. They are musical reflections on her own experiences as a bandleader in a rather male, hetero-normatively dominated music scene. This is also underlined by the title, so AKI is a non-binary name, in Finland for boys, in Japan for girls. This kind of everyday ambiguity interests the composing singer. Because strict classifications are simply not her thing – neither in life nor in music.
