Young trumpet player like the 33-year-old Maik Krahl have to be looked for with a magnifying glass in Germany. And anyone who finds it will be amazed to find that only very few young German jazz musicians currently sound more original, savvy and multifaceted. Krahl doesn't need popular show effects to lure his audience out of their reserve, but only his instrumental virtuosity and colorful, dazzling compositions. No wonder that someone was taught by such top-class teachers as Till Brönner and Ryan Carniaux during his studies in Dresden and Essen. Nevertheless, Krahl does not copy any of his role models, but surprisingly has long since developed an unmistakable tone and a clearly identifiable signature of his own. The fear of decision-making, which the trumpeter courageously addressed in his debut album "Decidophobia" in 2018, is long gone. In the meantime, he makes many right decisions, such as those for his follow-up albums "Fraction" and "In-Between Flow". In general, however, it is just another exciting stopover on the way to new, undiscovered worlds of music: Krahl's new album "The Magic of Consistency" will be released in November 2024. Maik Krahl and his companions teach an unobtrusive but lasting lesson in how to accept the ever-changing flow from one state to another. Which means something like: grow, learn and simply develop in the next state until the process begins again.
"I was lucky enough to be able to spend time with Maik when he took the first steps towards a mastery that makes him recognizable in a fraction of a second. The line-up on this wonderful album underlines his special skills even more. Believe it or not, I am happy to be able to secretly learn things from him today in which he has surpassed me. Keep it up!" Till Brönner
