"Reveal" is the name of the current album by drummer Mareike Wiening and her US quintet, which was nominated for Band of the Year at the German Jazz Award in 2022. Inspired by the "Big Apple" and Wiening's earlier stage of life in Scandinavia, her compositions are lyrical, direct and emotional and with a sound that captivates. A subtle, melodic synthesis of the arts, sometimes chamber music, sometimes playfully dancing, then again gripping with grooving improvisations. The intense musical dialogue between the soloists – all familiar faces of the New York jazz scene – and the rhythm section provides creative and surprising things that arise spontaneously from the moment: "Wiening has put together a truly transatlantic jazz project.
