Martin Ehlers, who must be counted among the most lyrical jazz pianists in the country, has developed his own instrumental style, which is equipped with an associative narrative art and is always able to tell great stories with wonderful melodies. Stories that will take root in the minds of the listeners for a long time. His music, not unlike the legendary ECM recordings of the seventies, grows out of a deep silence, out of a pause, out of contemplation. At his concerts, Ehlers takes concertgoers with his compositions to a wide variety of places in the world, whether from Sweden, to Sylt, to the Orient, South Sudan to the Chatham Islands of New Zealand. He is supported by his two congenial accompanists Thomas Biller on double bass and Kai Bussenius on drums in a grandiose and sensitive way. Biller, who also plucks his bass with Inga Rumpf, Joja Wendt, Dirk Darmstaedter and Reinhold Beckmann, among others, has been playing with Martin Ehlers since the very beginning. His playing is the solid foundation for the trio. In his solos, however, he also shows that he is in no way inferior in virtuosity and melodic. Kai Bussenius is also no stranger to the jazz scene. Born in Bremen, he has already drummed with international stars such as John Abercrombie, Kenny Wheeler or Herb Geller and Hamburg greats such as Ulita Knaus or Wolfgang Schlüter in his career. His groove is contagious and pushes Martin Ehlers and Thomas Biller again and again to new things. Martin Ehlers has already released five albums together with his trio, and a sixth is in the works. He plays live regularly in the north, today finally also at the Nica Jazz Club.
