Zenón, who has been nominated for a Grammy several times, is one of those musicians who have masterfully balanced and combined the often contradictory poles of innovation and tradition. He is considered one of the most groundbreaking and influential saxophonists and composers of his generation. Recorded with his long-time quartet, his album "Música de Las Américas" represents an expansion of the range and ambitions of Zenón, who is best known for combining cutting-edge music with folkloric and traditional music from Puerto Rico. For the realization, Zenón hired the famous Puerto Rican ensemble Los Pleneros de La Cresta, which contributed its unmistakable Plena sound to the album. Other contributions will come from the master musicians Paoli Mejías on percussion, Daniel Díaz on congas and Victor Emmanuelli on the Barril de Bomba. "This music is inspired by the history of the American continent: not only from the time before European colonization, but also from what has happened since then - cause and effect," says Zenón about his latest album, which consists exclusively of his own compositions. This music pays homage to the different cultures while challenging modern assumptions about who and what "America" is.
