One of the best jazz guitarists in the world is coming to Hamburg. Mike Stern is considered one of the greatest jazz guitarists of his generation and as a composer combines rock and jazz sounds into a unique mixture. At this concert, he will be supported by his wife Leni Stern, who was named one of the most sensational female guitarists of all time by Guitar Player magazine. She brings French jazz with West African style elements to the stage. Jazz drummer Dennis Chambers is also part of the party and brings his feeling for swing, fusion jazz, funk and Latin music. Bob Franceschini can be heard on the saxophone, the native New Yorker is one of the most sought-after saxophonists and has already played with various music greats, for 20 years also with Mike Stern again and again.
An absolute highlight in our concert calendar!
Stern began his career as a guitarist at the age of twelve, studied at the Berklee School of Music in Boston and soon became a member of the legendary "Blood, Sweat & Tears". Three years later, he was hired by Billy Cobham, with whom he enjoyed many years of success. Miles Davis brought Stern in for "We want Miles", and in the late 1980s he also toured the world with the Brecker Brothers, "Steps Ahead", with Jaco Pastorius and David Sanborn. Since 1985 he has been leading his own formations, in recent years with Richard Bona and Esperanza Spalding, among others. His mix of styles of fusion, rock and jazz, his guitar sound with clear references to Albert King and Jimi Hendrix make him unmistakable. Mike Stern presents his new album "Echoes and Other Things", which was released in 2024.
