With his new album 'Outside Of The Eastside,' US blues guitar legend Mike Zito delivers an album that turns memories of his hometown St. Louis into socially conscious songs, while also singing about economic decline and societal decadence. The result is a distinctive blues rock record that aims to make a meaningful statement across the genre, going far beyond just the title.
The guitarist, singer, and songwriter from St. Louis, Missouri, was a co-founder of the supergroup Royal Southern Brotherhood, which also includes Cyril Neville, Devon Allman, and Charlie Wooton, among others. Since 2014, however, Zito has focused on his own career. Almost all of his albums have been nominated for or awarded as "Best Album" at the Blues Music Awards. Before settling in Texas and freeing himself from the grip of personal demons, Mike Zito led a very tumultuous, self-destructive life, at times being homeless and addicted to drugs. He sees music as one of the healing elements in his life – and this is reflected in his guitar playing and singing. He really knows what he’s singing about when it comes to the abysses and hardships people can face in the world. Zito is celebrated as one of the most prominent blues musicians worldwide. All the big names in the blues scene keep showing him their respect; for example, Joe Bonamassa has worked with him as a producer. His playing ranges from spectacular, eruptive solos to traditionally grooving licks.
