NighthawksTheir concerts are a frenzy of great melodies, a strong pulse and powerful grooves.

The electro-jazz formation Nighthawks enters the stage. The time of the nighthawks has come. The band has played its way into the ear canals of many generations with their sounds. Jazz, backbeat, rock and pop - a wonderful mixture that sometimes stops by Steely Dan, honors Miles Davis, or even praises the folky of Bob Dylan. A quintet that has its ears in the here and now, but is steadfast enough to capture the great musical currents and cast them into their own form.
Over the past 25 years, the Nighthawks have evolved from a duo working in the studio to a collective. A five-piece band fed by the individual voices of its members. The band breathes a common spirit that stands with big feet in jazz and rock. All the musicians are sound tinkerers who succeed in setting visual ideas to music in a kind of film music approach - from wet, nightly asphalt roads of New York to church towers in lonely Mexican desert villages standing in shimmering heat. Each song is a spotlight on an imaginary film setting. Only a few German bands have stylized such clearly aesthetic parameters – melody, groove and sound – and thus worked on their recognizability. Above all, it is certainly the sensitively played trumpet of Reiner Winterschladen, sometimes radiant fanfare of departure, sometimes fragilely introverted, with the fragility of jazz. The exciting and percussive weave permanently shifts the attention from guitarist Jörg Lehnardt to drummer Thomas Alkier and from Jürgen Dahmen on Rhodes to band leader Dal Martino on bass. The developing sound sculptures live from the excellent sound image of the sound engineer Arnulf Mühl. The band has already carried this alert and stylish sound awareness to several festivals abroad - and now on two evenings on the stage of the Nica Jazz Club.
