Rymden, a trio that many jazz connoisseurs describe as a Scandinavian supergroup. Dan Berglund and Magnus Öström were members of E.S.T., the legendary Swedish jazz trio around the brilliant pianist Esbjörn Svensson, who tragically died in a diving accident in 2008. In 2017, Norwegian pianist Bugge Wesseltoft joined, and a solid musical trio relationship was formed. Just recently, their new album was released, which they present at Nica.
Rymden - the space - that is the name of the trio. Also the name of a model in a lamp collection of a Swedish furniture company. Illumination on both sides. On one hand, Wesseltoft, who can make his vision of a piano trio come true, and on the other hand, Öström and Berglund. For a long time, the latter two carried the burden of Esbjörn Svensson’s loss. Expectations and comparison theories about the new trio were immediately on the table. But initiator Wesseltoft sees the trio positioned at a different angle in the room. The trio deliberately seeks the beautiful as a musical stimulus.
