Pianist Shai Maestro creates a great poetic power and beauty in his music and is thus completely in the tradition of musicians such as Keith Jarrett or Charlie Haden. His pieces are profound and mystical, but sound incredibly relaxed, almost natural and unagitated, dark and round. Israel's jazz scene has blossomed in recent years. She is outshone by the two namesakes Avishai Cohen, one trumpeter, the other bassist. With the latter, Shai Maestro's career took off: In 2006, Cohen brought the then almost 20-year-old pianist into his band and gave him the freedom to develop his talent further. The best apprenticeship one could have, Maestro said later. His collaborations with Theo Bleckmann, Donny McCaslin, Gerald Clayton, Gilad Hekselman and Nate Wood, for example, were also formative – Maestro once spoke of being a sponge who could absorb inspiration from anywhere. He founded his first own trio in Brooklyn in 2010. in his trio he has two congenial partners at his side: Nehemya already has an enormous reputation with his dynamic, highly concentrated drumming. Roeder has been a fixture in the New York jazz world for years and has been Shai Maestro's musical partner for just as long. Here clearly three musicians meet who can cheer each other on stage and do so - reacting perfectly to each other.
