ShaloshCatchy melodies paired with amazing improvisations and pronounced storytelling. "An Israeli power trio. Heavy Jazz!" (Rolling Stone)

Shalosh from Tel Aviv belong to a generation of jazz bands that reach a wide audience - in jazz and beyond. Their music is raw, acoustic and progressive, happily contrasting styles and genres and is too agile to be categorized. In a classic jazz trio line-up, Shalosh go their own way and create a unique synthesis of influences as diverse as jazz, rock, classical, electronica, African and Middle Eastern music.
A year ago, "Tales of Utopia" was released, an album that was created during the Covid pandemic and is dedicated to a peaceful utopia in the midst of times that have become chaotic. "We had the time to deal with our origins. We read stories from the Bible or from the Arabian Nights and many other mythologies," says pianist Gadi. Again, it's the catchy groove and the pronounced melody, paired with a pronounced storytelling, that define the typical Shalosh sound. Recorded under live conditions, without headphones and amplifiers, a very unique, raw and haunting dynamic has been created here.
The trio interacts at the highest level and manages without instrumental showmanship or melodic dominance. They achieve this balance through a simple trick: the ensemble is not led by a leader, but all three are equally involved. This allows them to enjoy their joint artistic development and design music without ego.
Their story began in Jerusalem, where drummer Matan Assayag and pianist Gadi Stern first founded their own band. After the band disbanded, the two continued their musical partnership between Israel and New York, where Gadi lived at the time. In early 2014, they decided to form Shalosh and hired bassist David Michaeli. Since the release of their debut album "The Bell Garden" in 2014, they have left deep traces in the international music scene.
