Trumpeter Skylar Tang is already considered a sensation in NYC and the USA, although she currently still holds the status of a student. With her refreshing manner, her presence, her versatility and her virtuosity, the New Yorker by choice from the San Francisco Bay Area has taken the hearts of jazz lovers and well-known colleagues by storm. Joshua Redman is so impressed with her that he even invited Skylar to record his album "Words Fall Short". Currently, Skylar Tang is still preparing for her degrees in history and jazz performance at Columbia University and the Juilliard School. Of course, they are only a formality. For the time after graduation, trumpeter Sean Jones already made a prognosis for Skylar: "Every now and then, a musician comes along who has a vision and focus that you just know will affect the world — a sense of high artistry, skill, and profound leadership. Skylar Tang is one of the ones in her generation who fits this description."
With the Carnegie Hall ́s National Youth Orchestra, Skylar Tang, playing trumpet, made guest appearances as a teenager in the USA, Europe and South Africa. But her talent is not limited to her instrument. In 2022, she won the Essentially Ellington ́s Student Composition/Arranging Contest, after which she was soon allowed to perform her composition "Kaleidoscope" with the Jazz at Lincoln Orchestra. She even took over the conducting for the orchestra at this concert. In May 2026, Skylar Tang had her European premiere at the Moers Festival, and finally she is coming to us in Hamburg for the first time. Great things are waiting for us!
