The renowned theatre, film actor and photographer Stefan Hunstein and the composer and author Axel Nitz have created a programme especially for the Nica Jazz Club: they bring the famous three questions to the stage, which Nica asked so many jazz musicians and to which there were sometimes astonishing answers. The program is musically accompanied by sound collages by the composer Axel Nitz, compiled just for this purpose.
In 1954, Pannonica de Koenigswarter, known as Nica, née Rothschild, met the pianist
Thelonious Monk and then left her "jeweled cage" to dedicate her life to jazz in New York. As an unselfish agent, helpful and loyal friend and supporter, her door was always open to jazz musicians.
When Charlie Parker died in her suite at the Stanhope Hotel in 1955, the scandal was complete.
After moving to the Catshouse she had acquired, the Baroness began to ask 300 musicians about their wishes in the 60s; this resulted in records and photographs of Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane, Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman, Duke Ellington and many others. She remained close friends with Thelonious Monk until his death in 1982. It was not until 2006 that her book was published.
