Anyone who has already had the pleasure of experiencing this bundle of energy can hardly believe that she is a seven-time grandmother. Sydney Ellis steps onto the stage, raises her voice, and leaves the audience in awe. With her warm, powerful voice and always a smile on her lips, she grooves passionately through blues, soul, and jazz. Since 1995, when Sydney began her live career, she has performed over 1,200 concerts in 27 countries. She draws on the repertoire of singers and artists like Dinah Washington, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Sippie Wallace, Ann Rabson, Bessie Smith, Jeannie Cheatham, John Lee Hooker, Elmore James, Muddy Waters, Big Joe Turner, ZZ Hill, Willie Dixon, Lou Rawls, Jay McShann, Earl Thomas, and Louis Armstrong. Her gratitude goes to music and to all the people who have come over the years to see and hear her. Music makes her happy, and she shares that happiness with her audience.
