The Vampires, described as "worldly, talented" by Downbeat magazine and praised by The Guardian for their "seductive, genre-hopping creativity", are made up of four of Australia's most awarded jazz instrumentalists. The band has attracted worldwide attention with their distinctive sound, which has been compared to Miles Davis and his album "Bitches Brew" as well as the Art Ensemble of Chicago. With risk-taking improvisations, refined compositions and an uncanny sense of dialogue between saxophone and trumpet, the band has developed a style all its own, effortlessly combining influences from different parts of the world. Performances in the most prestigious jazz clubs and at the hottest festivals, collaborations with stars such as Lionel Loueke, as well as rave reviews for their latest album "Nightjar" speak for themselves. Now they are coming on a European release tour with their new album "Skydancer" and for the first time at Nica.
Seven albums in 13 years of band existence, ARIA nominated, the first instrumental group ever to be nominated for the Australian Music Prize and still young. There's still a lot to expect, and you shouldn't miss it!
