Twentytwo years ago, Tim Garland launched his Lighthouse Trio, a truly unique and impressive acoustic band that emphasizes musical communication. In 2024, this international trio will celebrate its 20th anniversary. Many will know Grammy-winning saxophonist Tim Garland from his long collaboration with Chick Corea, Gwilym Simcock from his long-standing collaboration with Pat Metheny and Asaf Sirkis as the drummer for Soft Machine. Garland's collaboration with Simcock goes back a long way. Both share a broadly similar musical approach, characterized by a mix of fusion, folk and classical forms, while the formidable Sirkis, a drummer and percussionist with a well-deserved reputation as one of the best in the business, seems to be at home in any environment, but here masterfully uses a bespoke set of Middle Eastern frame drums, that fits perfectly into this environment. Their interplay testifies to the breathtaking agility and lyrical sensibility of the musicians, with both Garland and Simcock providing compositional contributions.
